The Filmreakter asbl was founded in 2002 as a non-lucrative collective of young Luxembourgish filmmakers. Due to the absence of a clearly defined goal or field of operation the association can be used and redefined according to the needs of the filmmaking scene in Luxembourg. The association has thus been seen organising small festivals such as the regular Open Screen event showcasing the latest in Luxembourgish underground filmmaking, co-producing short as well as feature length low-budget films and programming 2007′s Sunset Cinema project. 2007 also marked the association’s first year of participation in the national film prize with two nominated productions, one of which ended up winning the prize for best short film – Jeff Desom’s Plotspoiler.
In 2011 the association partnered with the Luxembourg Cinémathèque to create Cinélunatique, a weekly presentation of vintage exploitation cinema. Furthermore they have been collaborating with the International Film Festival Luxembourg since 2009, curating special screenings and helping to bring Nisi Masa’s European Short Pitch project to Luxembourg in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Since 2011 the association is the Luxembourg representative of NISI MASA - European Network of Young Cinema.
Last but not least, Filmreakter run's an internet site reposting daily news items, over the years this has become the main source for news concerning the local film scene, there are currently over 3.000 articles that can be accessed through their online archive.
There is no formal procedure to join Filmreakter, the association is open to anyone interested in contributing to the local filmmaking landscape, be they teenage film enthusiasts, film students or professionals.
